The University Institute for Medical Sciences is a private health institute established in the city of Dhamar in 2004. It was previously known as the University Institute for Medical and Technical Sciences, with a license from the Ministry of Public Health and Population as the first private educational institution in the governorate with 3 medical specializations (pharmacy technician - laboratory technician - medical assistant). The establishment of the institute in the Dhamar governorate was linked to the urgent need to cover the governorate’s requirements of medical personnel in government and private facilities.

The study system at the University Institute is based on the credit hour system, according to which the academic year is divided into two semesters, each of 18 academic weeks. The duration of study in any of the departments of the university institute is 3 academic years, after which the student who passes all courses is awarded a higher diploma, and the institute offers about 24 free scholarships annually.

18 batches graduated from the University Institute until the end of the year 2022 AD. The ambition batch is the first batch of graduates of the University Institute of Medical Sciences, who have held many government and private positions and jobs.

The Institute's bid did not stop at granting a higher diploma, but continued to expand and develop. It was the first building block for the establishment of Al-Hikma Educational Institution (University Institute for Medical Sciences - Al-Hikma College of Medical and Technical Sciences - Al-Hikma University).
